PS3 Sees Black Friday Sales Bump
November 27, 2007 - Driven by price cuts and the introduction of a cheaper model, sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 in North America rose 245 percent last week over the same period last year.
Sony reported the jump in sales to the Bloomberg financial news service but did not disclose the actual figures. The increase was reported by Sony's top 10 retailers from Nov. 18 through Nov. 24, which includes Black Friday.
Sony dropped the price of the PS3 to $499 from $599 on Oct. 18 and introduced a new, slimmed-down model for $399 on Nov. 2. Microsoft and Nintendo have not released Xbox 360 and Wii sales for the week of Black Friday.
