Blacksite Developer No Longer At Midway
November 30, 2007 - Harvey Smith, lead designer of BlackSite: Area 51, no longer works at Midway, the company confirmed today.
Smith made headlines this week when he spoke at the Montreal International Game Summit about the game's poor critical reception, largely blaming himself for the low scores.
According to an account of his speech by Wired's Game|Life blog, Smith called the BlackSite: Area 51 project "so f***ed up" and said he was not excited about making it.
"Midway can confirm that Harvey Smith is no longer an employee of the company," a Midway spokesman told IGN in response to questions about the former Deus Ex developer's departure.
The circumstances surrounding Smith's leaving Midway are still unclear, and the company declined to elaborate on the exact terms or causes of the split.
